The flagships from Samsung and Apple are the default choice for a smartphone for most people. But there are significant differences between the two which you should know before making a purchase decision.
Also, before we dive right into the comparison if you are an avid Apple or Samsung user, this content piece isn’t for you. I have seen multiple cases where people who used an operating system for a couple of years had trouble adapting and their experience was ruined.
So, if you aren’t one of them join me as I unfold the key differences between the two flagships which can help you shape an idea for your purchase decision.
Let’s start with the iPhone 15: it has a total of two camera lenses. One is the 48MP main shooter and the other is a 12MP ultra-wide lens. At the front, it has a 12MP selfie camera.
How do they actually perform? If I’d describe that with one word – great.
The pictures on the 48MP lens look sharp and not overly saturated. The dynamic range in the photos is good. The video quality on the base iPhone 15 is better than the rest of the smartphones at the same price. All in all the camera is good.
Now, you might be wondering about the zoom lens. Well, it doesn’t have any but Apple being Apple has its way of doing things. It uses the same primary lens to deliver 2x optically zoom photos. Though the pictures are not as sharp as we get from a dedicated telephoto lens it’s still acceptable.
Switching to the Galaxy S24: it has a 50MP primary lens coupled with a 12MP ultra-wide and a 10MP dedicated telephoto lens which can zoom up to 3x optically.
If I had to pick one for the rest of my life specifically photos, I’d go for the Samsung Galaxy S24.
The photos it takes are nice and vibrant. I mean not too vibrant that they look like dipped In a rainbow. They are perfectly balanced.
And did I mention those AI features that come with the S24? They are nice to have on your device but they are not like great utility.
Also, the S24 can record videos up to 8k but this is a feature that most of the people are not even going to use. As for the normal 1080p videos, they are fine but not as good as those from the iPhone 15. iPhone is still the undisputed king in the video spectrum.
For this test, I compared both routine tasks and then intensive gaming. Which one of them stood out?
The S24 is powered by Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon Gen 3 and for the day-to-day tasks it performed well (as expected from a phone priced at 800 bucks).
I frequently switched between tasks, I did multitasking on the phone, I recorded 8k video, I used the AI features and it worked just fine.
Then came the real test – gaming. First things first, I called my ISP at Xfinity customer service number to upgrade my plan for a fair review of the performance. Then I played COD Mobile on the S24 for two hours. Honestly, the gaming experience on the phone was smooth: there were no lags and the phone didn’t even heat up that much even though I was playing it at the maximum settings.
Now, comes the turn for the iPhone 15: the phone struggled a bit when I was switching between the apps during multitasking. I think that was because of the lesser RAM in the iPhone 15. The RAM on any device is responsible for multitasking so I was already expecting that on the iPhone.
As for the gaming, it felt a little smoother on the iPhone 15 on the same WiFi with the same COD mobile. Apple makes the best chips on the planet earth and iPhone 15’s A16 Bionic beats the Snapdragon Gen 3 in the practical use and the benchmarks score.
The Galaxy S24 is the clear winner here. It has a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED display that can reach the peak brightness of 2600 nits and has a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz which makes it feel smoother.
On the flip side, iPhone 15 has a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR Display which can reach the peak brightness of 2000 nits. Though both displays can easily handle the outdoors, the real difference is the refresh rate.
iPhone is still stuck to the 60Hz display which, in my opinion, is pretty disappointing at this price. Also, the Dynamic Island is a big obstruction in a better viewing experience.
The bottom line is that the S24 has a far better display than the iPhone 15, and if you watch a lot of content on your phone, you should go for the S24.
In the end, the purchase decision will come down to you. But OK, let me just help a bit more: if you are already an iPhone user then you should go with the iPhone 15 and you will be fine. And if you are someone who doesn’t care about the Apple ecosystem then just go with the Galaxy S24 as it offers more value for money.
